Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco, and it is my comfort place. Walking up and down the hill, ducking into every shop, thrifting, a long lunch at Cha Cha Cha, getting tattooed. It is loud and colorful, and somehow it always has a calming energy.
It opens with Valencia orange, peach, and a pinch of saffron and nutmeg, bright and a little golden. Coconut milk, clove, cinnamon, and tonka bean move through the middle, creamy and warm without being sugary. Then vanilla, praline, raw honey, and sandalwood close it out, cozy and a little bit sweet, like the last sip of something you did not want to end.
Like a good thrift find and a slow afternoon with nowhere to be.
